Annie is teaching reading to her first graders using all the written documents which circulate in the classroom (information leaflets, various programmes, letters from pen-friends, letters to parents, school magazine). She is therefore very often led to write texts, and so are her students. She chose to work this way, because it enables the students to learn how to read texts concerning their environment. At the beginning, she has a hard time with the exercises : when you do not have a guide, you have to create everything. This is why she uses ELMO INTERNATIONAL. Like Mr Smith, she gives her students varied exercises ; she also uses the analysis module which enables to improve the knowledge vocabulary and grammatical structures. The classroom micro-computer is permanently used for training by students. During group working sessions, there is always an « ELMO workshop ». The software is also used as text processing : to be able to print a text one has written is as pleasant and valorising for children as it is for adults ! When the students do an exercise, the computer keeps their results in storage and delivers them upon request... Annie has just to view them to know the level of each student and choose from accordingly the following exercises. |
